The online store is OPEN again. It had been closed for a few days for some work updating the latest pics. Now you can get all the latest pictures from your computer.
Also, I have a new location on the northshore that you can check out my photos. Nonna's Bakery on hwy 190. If you're in that area stop in.

Not Lafitte's Blaksmith Shop

I should really start calling this Kevin's Photo of the Month.
The building in this photo is across the street from the famous Lafitte's Blacksmith shop on Bourbon St. I don't know what it is but it is BADLY in need of repair. The balcony doesn't even have guard rails. I think this building contrasts well to the "Disney" perfect recreation of Lafitte's is across the street. It also shows the state of the quarter post Katrina.

Tomato Festival Weekend
In New Orleans the first weekend of May means Jazzfest. But not here. I never (rarely) give you those stereotypical views of this area. This is a photo from the Tomato Festival in Chalmette. This is my grammar school church fair, so for me growing up this was the year's big event.
It meant funnel cakes and rides. And putting disappearing ink in water guns and chasing your friends around.
Since the storm the Tomato Festival has meant a lot more to the people of Chalmette. It was only 8 months after the storm and yet it was not canceled. It turned in to a place to meet and greet old friends again. It showed the will of the residents that didn't have homes, but still took the time out to put the fair on.
This year was the second since the storm and the 56th Tomato Festival. A chance to meet and greet old friends and enjoy food fun and great music.
If you're from around here you know that there are MANY MANY festivals of all sorts going on around this time of year. And I suspect that there is one (which ever one it is) that you wouldn't miss for the world.

Louisiana Derby Preview Day

How often do you make it down to the Fairgrounds? If you're like me the answer is not often. But I went on Louisiana Derby Preview day, and came away with this picture of the horses out of the gate. If you missed preview day you can still catch the 94th running of the Louisiana Derby on Saturday, March 10th at the fairgrounds and see these horses run again! I may just have to go. I wonder if I can still get reservations to the clubhouse.

CBD and French Quarter looking good

Considering everything that's been going on in the city, the new trash collection company is making the French Quarter and CBD clean. This photo taken this week shows the newly redone Customs House on the newly redone Canal Street. As you can see the new palm trees are up, the new sidewalks are in, and there is no trash anywhere. Now we just need to keep it up!!! And also if this one part of the city can get cleaned up maybe there is hope for other parts as well.
